MED-LOGICS has been recognized by Medtech Business Review Magazine as the exclusive recipient of “Futured Vendors (July-August) - 2023,” based on our proprietary methodology, reflecting its position in the industry. This profile has been developed by the Medtech Business Review research and editorial team based on insights from an interview with Justin Ross, Chief Technology Officer.
Justin Ross, Chief Technology OfficerAmong the most commonly performed corrective ophthalmic surgeries, the low risk and faster recovery LASIK (laser-assisted in situ keratomileuses) procedure has been popular and sought-after since 1999. And for the treatment of abnormal visual acuity disorders like cataracts and corneal blindness, corneal transplantation surgeries and lens removal exist. With innovations in surgical devices and technologies, ophthalmic surgeries can go further in becoming prodigious to millions. This is where the value proposition of MED-LOGICS exists.
The company is a bestselling global manufacturer of patented ophthalmic surgical devices and a suite of specialized medical products for LASIK and cataract surgeries. Founded by Rod and Betty Ross in 1992 as a small supplier, its growth and recognition had been colossal in Orange County, the medical device hub of the United States. In 2013, MED-LOGICS expanded by moving operations to Athens, Texas. MED-LOGICS has become a global brand recognized for selling FDA-approved ophthalmic products for over 70 countries. “We are proud to celebrate our 30th year of success in distributing high-quality medical devices around the world,” says Justin Ross, Chief Technology Officer of MED-LOGICS.
The company’s product portfolio entails six major categories. Firstly, MED-LOGICS delivers ML7®, a software-controlled, smart microkeratome designed explicitly for surgeons as an easy-to-use LASIK system. The software monitors the vacuum pressure and increases or decreases the rate of oscillation of the associated ML7® blade for uniformly cutting the flap across the eye’s cornea. The system can make the incision to create the flap, then automatically reverse its handpiece to the start position, all in seven seconds. Moreover, the smooth coating on the head and vacuum rings of ML7® microkeratome make the device perform more smoothly. The offering comes with PVA eye sponges, cleaning brushes, sterilization trays, and many other tools.
MED-LOGICS also offers Calibrated LASIK Blades (CLB®) for eight various microkeratome systems. Their blade that fits their ML7 comes in packaging that enable surgeons to insert and dispose of the blade without a touch. All CLB’s come in various sizes that can accommodate various cornea thicknesses.
“Beyond our robust inspection and tight tolerance attributes, we deliver a positive and precise outcome with our products,” mentions Justin.

CataPulse®, an advanced high-frequency pulsed vacuum device, is another of the company’s innovations in cataract surgeries. Surgeons can make use of this highly reliable device to gently dissect the cataract material from the lens. Using CataPulse®, the entire surgery can be performed efficiently by lowering risk to damaging corneal tissue. The surgeons have seen an average reduction of 58% in endothelial (internal) cell loss than the conventional phaco-emulsification procedure that uses mechanical ultrasound energy (phaco) to remove cataracts. Additionally, the CataPulse® has a pre-assembled, sterile disposable handpiece, which offers a superior sterility assurance level. The disposable, handpiece eliminates the need to disassemble, clean, sterilize, and reassemble the handpiece between surgeries. The device has even achieved CE Approval across Europe and has been used in major parts of Asia. Justin prides, “We know and understand the patient experience very well. Both our CEO and our President have had cataract surgery with the CataPulse®, in both eyes during the same day and the results were amazing, beyond expectations.”
The company’s experts, along with machinists and engineers, deliver specialized replacement components and product support services for microkeratomes, donor cornea systems, and handpieces as well. In addition to its technology prowess, MED-LOGICS carries out high-tech visual and dimensional inspections of medical devices. Its quality control is unmatched, given the calibrated blades can be measured to an accuracy of 1.8 microns.
With a family motto of ‘Success Nourishes Hope,’ the Ross family steers MED-LOGICS ahead in the market with good leadership and fair supervision of all employees. It has a fair call profit-sharing model with production employees to ensure integrity and accountability. In addition the company envisions developing premium cataract surgical devices shortly. “With our state-of-the-art facility, our amazing staff, and our high-quality medical devices, we offer something truly superior, allowing us to see our 30th year in business and become entrenched in the Ophthalmic market.” concludes Justin.
